Galatians

Throughout the generations and all groups of society mankind continues to believe that only by the fruits of it's own work will it gain anything of worth. This basic belief is seen played out by the actions of school children, business men, charity workers and all walks of society.  It is therefore unnatural that gaining recognition by and acceptance from God would be any different.  Surely, your own efforts will ultimately make you right with God and achieve you a heavenly place!

This fallacy had gripped the Galatian church. False teachers were proclaiming that faith in the shed blood of Christ was insufficient for acceptance by God and that works of circumcision and observance of Jewish custom were also essential.  God could only do so much, the rest was down to you.

Paul responds to this message with a blunt, clear and authoritative rebuke.  That man either can or must do anything to make himself acceptable to God is a lie and full of arrogance.  Paul sets out the central message of the whole bible and passionately pleads with the Galatians to return to it.  Only through faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ ALONE can anyone gain acceptance by God and access to Him.
