Good Friday Meetings with Frank Retief

We were delighted to welcome Frank Retief to speak to us on Good Friday.  Frank is Presiding Bishop of the Church of England in South Africa.

On 25 July 1993 a congregation of 1400 gathered at St James' Church in Cape Town.  Members of a radical paramilitary group burst in with hand grenades and rifles and fired indiscriminately into the group.  11 members of the congregation were killed and many more injured.  This tragic incident became known world wide as the St James' Massacre and was a turning point in the history of apartheid in South Africa.

Frank draws on the painful lessons he and his congregation learned that day speaking on "Why does God allow suffering in the world?" and "Does God Really Care?"  Frank's message is an honest and open presentation of the events that took place, their Christian response and lessons learned in such circumstances and the amazing impact this had on South Africa.
